having left school at sixteen, with all the gcse's i needed, i succesfully completed a gnvq level iii advanced in general art and design at west nottinghamshire college, mansfield.

after this i embarked on a university degree in contemporary photographic practice at the university of northumbria in 1996. it soon became clear that this was not the course for me, so staying in newcastle i began an hnd in photography (1997). uninspired by the course i made the decision to return to nottingham.

in september 1998 i accepted a place at south nottingham college studying a foundation course in general art and design. this is where i became interested in painting. i had the opportunity here to continue working with photography, and expanded this to include video art and installation.

after completing this course i specialised in painting at cheltenham and gloucester college. i am still able to utilise photographic skills in my work, and have had the opportunity to take part in a number of projects outside of college, including a two week video project in sierre, switzerland.
